Higher Postage Rates – What Do They Mean for You?
Benjamin Franklin has been credited with saying, “Nothing is certain but death and taxes.” However, if you’re fundraising through the mail, you know it’s safe to add, “And the Postal Service increasing postage rates.”
The phrase “The USPS has proposed a new rate increase affecting all mail” puts everyone in the direct marketing world on high alert. The first thing most people think is: What does that mean for my budget? Well, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.
Let me break it down for you – overall, we’re looking at a 1% – 3% increase for all letter mail, with larger 9×12 size envelope (like a high dollar upgrade) taking a slightly bigger hit at around 5%.

Of course, this increase had been anticipated, so we have already factored the increase into all of our budgets, but you should check with your other vendors to see how the increase will impact your newsletters, event invitations or other mail.
